Let's Talk About Our History - Local Hero Bert Kennedy

Tuesday, May 13, 2025 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Cost: Free

Join retired librarian and historian Norma Graham for a talk about Second World War hero Bert Kennedy. Owen Sound has a number of war heroes to be proud of, but there is one about whom most people don’t know. Albert Arnett Kennedy (1905-1981) led a regiment in Italy in 1943-44 and was awarded a Distinguished Service Order for his courage and leadership under fire. But if it wasn’t for Farley Mowat’s book “And No Birds Sang”, we wouldn’t know about his bravery. Come to the Owen Sound Library on May 13th at 7 pm to hear Kennedy’s story, that reads like a thrilling war novel - but is absolutely true! Norma Graham is a retired librarian born and raised in Grey County. Her interest in Canadian military history goes back over two decades. For the past five years, she has been intensively researching Canada’s roles in the Second World War, and has presented at the Laurier Centre’s Military History Colloquium as well as on YouTube channels WW2TV and OTD Military History. She has also appeared on British military history podcasts speaking about the Canadians in Northwest Europe during the war.
