
LEVEL 2/3 CLAY - 5 SESSION
Clay 1 is a prerequisite. The ability to centre a pot and consistently throw a cylinder with intention is MANDATORY. Clay 2 is a continuation of the Clay 1 introductory course where techniques will be expanded on. Please discuss with your Clay 1 Instructor whether it is beneficial to move on to this class. Participants will be learning how to increase the size of their work while maintaining control of the clay. Bowl forms will be introduced. Techniques for refining and finishing vessels will help to increase the success rate of throwing. Trimming and glazing will be reintroduced and reinforced. Clay 3 is the final class in our learn to throw series. Students will learn how to add handles, lids, spouts, and feet as well as refining their shapes further. Decorative glazing and surface decoration will be introduced. The instructor will troubleshoot any problems you may have and help to avoid bad habits that will hold back your progress. If you are successful in Clay 3, you may apply for Open Studio. A maximum of 5 pieces will be saved and fired. Clay 2 is a prerequisite for the next step, Clay 3. After Clay 3, students are eligible for Open Studio time.
