Owen Sound has three popular waterfalls around the outside of the city. Indian Falls, Inglis Falls and Jones' Falls at the Pottawatomi Conservation Area. All three locations are part of Conservation Areas operated by the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority.

The Niagara Escarpment provides unique wildlife habitat: home to 100 species of trees; 320 species of birds, some indigenous to the escarpment alone; and 50 of the 70 species of fern known to exist in Ontario. Because of the escarpment, "northern Grey County is a patchwork quilt landscape. Rolling, glacial sculpted farmlands are interspersed with patches of deciduous forest, meandering rivers and creek valleys lined in dark green cedar. The rural countryside is dotted with farming homesteads not greatly changed in over a century."
